Winter is not the traditional season for weddings in Vermont, but it has been gaining popularity in the past few years. With opportunities for soft textures, cosy fires, and soul-warming libations, it's no wonder that more couples are choosing a snowflake adorned setting for their "I do"s. Kayse and Eben had been frequent "weekend warriors", driving up to Vermont for mini ski adventures, for years and knew it would be a special treat for their friends and family to experience the enchanting atmosphere that Stowe had to offer.

Read on to see what Kayse had to say about their path to this special Winter wedding:

HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET? We met in college through mutual friends and like the way most relationships begin we became friends that hung out and played darts into the wee hours of the morning. We both share a passion for working hard all week and leaving life behind for spontaneous road trip adventures on the weekends.

WHAT WAS THE PROPOSAL LIKE? Since Eben is not originally from Connecticut, I had fun making sure that weekend adventures included trips to NYC, Boston and the Rhode Island shoreline. We grew closer as we shared a love for new and exciting things to do. The first trip that we were able to take after college was to South Beach, FL. This quickly became one of our favorite spots to vacation to and we went back as frequently as our wallet would allow! It came as no shock, but was very exciting, when Eben booked a surprise trip to our favorite spot for my birthday. Little did I know that in addition to celebrating a birthday, we would have much bigger things to toast!

On the first day that we arrived we had a nice dinner and walked down to South Pointe, an area overlooking Fischer’s island and the Miami skyline. He then surprised me and got down on one knee to propose! I was so happy to say "YES"!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE VERMONT FOR YOUR WEDDING? Having grown up in New England I am no stranger to the varying weather that each season brings.  Like most southern New Englanders I was never the biggest fan and it took a new perspective on life to embrace the dreaded… winter! After college Eben made plans to snowboard at Mount Snow with a friend which was a surprise to me as it’s something I never knew he did. Since I had never skied or snowboarded before, but am always up for a new adventure, I thought I’d give it a try!  Over the years Eben and I joined a ski club, started venturing further and further north and quickly became weekend warriors leaving work on Friday evening to drive 3 ½ hours north and ride all weekend before returning for the work week.

I had always imagined having a destination wedding where my family and friends have their toes in the sand and the sun in their face until Eben introduced me to snowboarding. I fell in love and was introduced to a whole other season that I had never appreciated as much and the destination changed.

HOW DID YOUR WEDDING REFLECT YOUR RELATIONSHIP AS A COUPLE? Since most of our guests had never been to Stowe or even VT our hope for the weekend was for them to have a glimpse into why we love to spend our winters there. Our cocktail party style reception was reflective of après ski. We kept the seating arrangement light and fun by not having one! Guests were welcome to lounge on the couches or sit down and eat more formally. We made sure the band was rocking and the drinks were flowing just like an afternoon following a great day on the slopes! Instead of a traditional cake we opted for a traditional VT desert of Ben and Jerry’s and let our guests make their own sundaes. Eben even had a chance to hit the mountain with guests that morning!

HOW DID YOUR VENDORS HELP MAKE YOUR WEDDING DAY PERFECT? Everyone we worked with help make our day perfect because there was nothing I needed to worry about! Since we aren’t from VT planning was a bit more challenging. We relied on the Trapps Lodge for pretty much everything and they took care of us like Kings and Queens. Our florist worked with little suggestion yet captured our vision perfectly of simple and elegant wintry floral arrangements. Kathleen, our photographer, was awesome and a friend by the end of the night knowing every spot in Stowe and capturing awesome memories for us. The band can make or break a night and Wyld Nightz kept everyone on their feet until they had to kick us out!
