Real Wedding | Jeannette & Joseph

Elmore State Park, Elmore, Vermont

Jeannette and Joseph's nature themed wedding was full of enchanting details that blended in beautifully with the breathtaking Lake Elmore landscape. The L.A. based couple chose Vermont for their destination nuptials because of Jeannette's fond childhood vacation memories. They chose butterflies to tie in Joseph's Chinese heritage and birds to honor Jeannette's grandmother, an avid bird watcher and painter, who passed away a few months before their wedding. Here are some other detailes Jeannette shared with us about their big day:

HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET? Joseph and I were both in the screenwriting program at USC, and we met on Facebook and chatted over the summer before meeting up at the start of our freshman year.  We've been together ever since.

WHAT WAS YOUR THEME/COLOR PALETTE? Our colors were blue, pastel pink, and white.  Pink was incorporated for an interesting reason. Our wedding also reflected our dual heritages and talents.  I made nature our theme, specifically birds and butterflies.  The birds were chosen out of a mutual love and respect for my grandmother, Mildred Jeannette Manning, an avid bird watcher and painter. Joseph is Chinese American, and butterflies symbolize lovers in Chinese culture. They fit perfectly with the birds for our nature theme. Birds and butterflies were a part of everything, from birds and butterflies wired into the flowers, to butterfly wind chimes, to table settings and center pieces, to escort cards, to bird glider wedding favors.

HOW DID YOUR WEDDING REFLECT YOUR RELATIONSHIP AS A COUPLE? This may come as a surprise to many considering we've been together for almost a decade, but our wedding brought us closer. It was an important reminder of just how much we mean to each other. We’ve stayed by each other's side through some very good times and some very tough times, and we’ve emerged stronger because of it.

WHAT WERE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE MOMENTS? I loved using real flowers in my hair for both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. My husband spritzed me with a water bottle before the rehearsal dinner to keep the flowers fresh, much to the amusement of everyone watching!

WHAT WAS THE SONG YOU HAD YOUR FIRST DANCE TO? We weren’t originally going to do a first dance, but when I heard the custom love song, called My Love, which our friend, composer George Shaw, co-created with his friend Deborah Craig for our wedding, I told Joseph, “I want to do a waltz.”  I sang the lyrics, and Joseph played the violin. The line “We are perfect fifths in perfect tune for what is the sun without the moon” was a perfect symbol of our relationship as both screenwriting partners and violin duet partners.
